Engineer for an Data Analytics Engineering Position, New York, USA

About the Position

The company are looking for a driven data engineer to join the Analytics team. Their vision is to create the most engaging social games in the world. To achieve this vision, they are developing a world-class game analytics system that will affect the decisions made by every game developer, artist, and producer in the company. In this role, you will work with large data sets and cutting edge technologies to develop a real-time analytics system to answer critical business questions.

In this role, your responsibilities will include:
•   Own the data warehouse – maintain a scalable data warehouse with Vertica (or other technologies if needed) loaded via ETL over HDFS of  massive logs.
•   Lead the charge in developing a multi-threaded library for ETL, real-time analysis, and analytics aggregation.
•   Collect massive amounts of data - work closely with the game developers to gather data from games and define data structure.  We have over 10 million users and expect to grow well beyond that very quickly - and we log everything!
•   Build an awesome technology stack – empower the analytics team to perform rapid data mining and analysis in a sane and reproducible way by maintaining a backend layer which supports these goals.
•   Be a student of emerging social games on Facebook and best practices in analytics.
 

Skills required for this position:
•    Desire to own and manage large data sets
•    Strong SQL/ETL skills.  Experience with Vertica or mySQL in particular is a plus
•    Scripting Language Experience (Perl / Python / Ruby) required, experience with Ruby is desirable
•    Expertise with visualization, data mining, or statistical tools is desirable.
•    A love for working in a team-oriented environment with other engineering, design, and marketing teams.
•    And, of course, Beautiful Code
