Jobs - - July 08, 2011Smash is a Pittsburgh-based startup creating new mobile-messaging and mobile-computing technologies. With funding from Mark Cuban and other experienced technology investors, we’re growing, and we’re looking for talented people to join our team.
We’re currently looking for someone to join our core-technologies team. We’re interested hearing from programmers who care about the craft of writing software. Want to work with people who care about their work and the people they work with? If so, read on.
To work on the Smash Core-Tech Team, you must have –

- experience writing software that is spare, reliable, and fit for its purpose
- the ability to speak and write clearly about complicated things
- the discipline to work alone and the selflessness to work with others
- a commitment to learning, to improving yourself, to honing your craft
- a command of multiple programming styles, including functional and object oriented
- a good understanding of human-computer interaction and user-interface design
- working experience with automated testing, integration, and deployment
- working experience with robust, large-scale, distributed software systems
As evidence of these traits, we would like you to show us –
- a bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering or computer science (or equivalent experience)
- a blog or other evidence of your ability to communicate complex thoughts
- your work on open-source software or other software that we can review
You should also possess proficiency in the following technical areas –
- Erlang/OTP – the foundation of our technology stack
- Linux development, deployment, and operations (if your preferred development environment is Windows, this is not the job for you)
Nice-to-haves -
- familiarity with cloud services like Amazon EC2
Depending on your interests and ability, you may move into a number of roles. Our company is small and growing; at Smash you’ll have the opportunity to try new things and make career moves that would be unlikely at a traditional company.
